Kit's Coat Salve
For the scrapes and scuffs of skin still learning what the world feels like.

Calendula's the workhorse of the garden — orange-headed, opens easy, keeps blooming clear past first frost, and it's never once given us a bad batch. We infuse it slow in olive oil, then thicken it with beeswax and shea until it sets up firm enough to survive a diaper bag.

Comfrey's old folk name is knitbone, root and leaf both, used for skin and tissue in the process of closing back up. Yarrow is the battle herb — the wound herb, used for centuries on things that had been through something, however small that something is when you're two years old and just met the sidewalk.

This isn't precious. It's a working salve for a kid who's going to keep falling down, because that's what learning to walk looks like.

Full ingredients/directions:

Ingredients: Olive oil, beeswax, shea butter, comfrey leaf & root (Symphytum officinale), calendula (Calendula officinalis), yarrow (Achillea millefolium).

Directions: Work a small amount in with fingers over scraped knees, chapped cheeks, or dry patches. Reapply as needed.

Cautions: Contains calendula and yarrow, related to the Asteraceae (daisy) family — patch test recommended. External use only. Avoid use on deep or broken skin; consult a pediatrician for wounds needing more than surface care.
